Xia Mo, an orphan raised in a children's shelter, is diagnosed with end-stage liver cancer and has less than a year to live. Around this time, Su Man, the mother of her beloved ex-lover Jiang Yanyu, offers her five million yuan. Threatening to harm the orphanage and its caretaker Aunt Chen, Su Man forces Xia Mo to leave Jiang Yanyu. With tears in her eyes, Xia Mo takes the money and disappears completely from his life. Five years later, Ningmo Orphanage faces demolition, and the developer behind the project is none other than Jiang Yanyu, now CEO of the Jiang Group.

To save the home that Aunt Chen built, Xia Mo has no choice but to cross paths with him again. Convinced she is a greedy gold-digger, Jiang Yanyu strikes a cruel deal: he will spare the orphanage land only if she stays by his side for three months, and he humiliates her endlessly as revenge. Xia Mo hides her illness and endures everything silently, until she coughs up blood and collapses at a dinner party. Su Man quickly swaps her medical report, tricking Jiang Yanyu into believing it is just a minor stomach bleed, and pressures her to leave him once more.
