Summary notes

Alina has spent a decade in exile, cast out by her stepmother Katherine. When Katherine finally calls her back, it is not a homecoming but a trade: Alina must surrender her engagement to Luke, the mafia don, so that her half-sister Isabella can take her place.

On the road back, a dangerous stranger slips into her room and stages intimacy to evade men chasing him. He offers repayment; wary, she gives a false name. Yet he tracks her down, and when she invokes Luke to warn him off, he answers with a kiss. At the engagement banquet, the name proclaimed is Alina's, not Isabella's. The stranger appears and leads her in a dance. He is Luke. Around these four figures, every motive and bond is up for grabs. Alina: exiled for ten years, summoned back only to hand her engagement to another. Katherine: the stepmother who decides which daughter gets which future. Isabella: the half-sister poised to inherit Alina's place at the banquet. Luke: the don who hides his identity, then claims a dance and a name.
