The disabled Duke Vance is rumored to be a monster. It's also rumored that each of his seven previous brides died on their wedding night. Chloe, desperate to escape being sold off by her own father and half-sister, makes a big gamble: She signs the marriage contract in blood and becomes the Duke's eighth wife.

Everyone expects Chloe to end up as another cold corpse. Instead, Chloe survives and gradually earns the Duke's trust and love. But the man the world dismisses as a useless cripple is hiding an extraordinary secret: Duke Vance is actually the King of the Merfolk, ruler of the deep sea.
