After three years of marriage, Emma uncovered Nick's obsession with his sister-in-law Beth and his manipulation of her. She planned their divorce, reclaimed her fortune, and rebuilt her career, then confronted Beth's provocations. Cole, her adoptive brother who had long loved her but once fled, returned to protect her and helped bring Beth to justice.

When Nick realized Emma was his true savior, remorse came too late. Emma and Cole married, and with her successful development of an anti-cancer drug, she stepped into a radiant new life, leaving Nick defeated and destitute.
