Nerys is the guardian of the mermaid clan's sacred relic, the "Heart of the Tide." After it is stolen by humans, she tracks it all the way to the estate of global shipping magnate Adrian Vance. By then, Adrian has become a vegetative patient after a deep-sea accident—and the relic has fused into his body. To save her son, Adrian's mother Evelyn agrees to Nerys's "extortion," "buying" her into the household as a lucky bride. Nerys is a natural money-grubber.

On the surface, she plays the obedient fiancée—but every night, she drools over Adrian's abs while her mind churns with calculations. What she doesn't know is that Adrian can hear her inner thoughts—and is so enraged by her reading him a Seahorse Postpartum Care Guide that he coughs up blood. The two gradually fall for each other amid hilarious bickering. Nerys must not only deal with the schemes of Adrian's ex-fiancée Brittany and the harassment of his younger brother Max, but also protect this "infuriating" man she accidentally woke up—before the mermaid clan's high priest Hiram comes ashore to arrest her. In the end, Adrian offers his vast fortune and a lifetime of devotion as a bride price, successfully keeping this money-loving mermaid on land forever.
