Beth Carter was the wife of a famous chef. When the general's people beat her husband to death, she didn't weep. She took her young daughter and set up a lamb soup stall right at the general's gate. She endured. She schemed.

She made the general fall in love with her and take her as his concubine. This was what she had been waiting for. But why did she really enter that house? What has she been simmering all these years, if not a bowl of lamb soup? And that dish "roast lamb with no lamb flavor" who is it really for?
