Hotel clerk Emma's ex is New York mafia boss Dante. Three years ago, when Dante was dying of kidney failure, Emma secretly donated one of hers — then staged a betrayal, making him believe she took money and ran off with his younger brother. Because she knew his pride would never accept her kidney. Now, her remaining kidney failing, Emma returns to see him one last time.

Instead, Dante torments her, forces her to clean up after his new girlfriend, humiliates her at every turn. When the truth finally breaks, Dante collapses at her bedside, sobbing. But Emma slips into a coma. The man who once commanded her with a single word now kneels before the woman he loves — begging for a reply that will never come.
