Brett and Natalia had been childhood sweethearts, growing up together for twenty years. On his 25th birthday, he planned to propose to her, just as they had promised each other long ago. But what he discovered instead shattered his expectations—his girlfriend taking intimate photos with a younger classmate.

Natalia believed she hadn't done anything wrong; she repeatedly sided with the younger classmate, disregarding Brett's feelings, and pressured him to back down and compromise. Completely disillusioned, Brett left her a letter ending their relationship and departed the country to start a new chapter in his career.
