Reborn from a tragic death, Merit, eldest daughter of a W'ab priest, relives the Nile Inundation Festival, where noble maidens choose their fated husbands. In her past life she boosted her husband's career, only to be murdered by her jealous younger sister Nefti—also reborn, aiming to seize the powerful officer Hemte for status.

When Merit casts the sacred scarab, it lands on Kaji, the real Pharaoh Amenem hiding under a beggar alias to test noble ladies' characters. Defying family humiliation and public mockery, Merit marries the seemingly destitute Kaji. In a shabby hut she practices superb folk medicine, winning his deep affection. Consumed by envy, Nefti frames and tortures her in prison. At the life-or-death moment, Kaji reveals his royal identity and punishes the villains. Surviving war, plague and the Hittite emperor's admiration, Merit guards the kingdom with wisdom and mercy, finally ascending as Queen, gaining sincere, mutual love with Kaji.
