Zhang Cuilan had been taken in by the Zhang family from a young age. After her mother passed away, her sister-in-law, Wang Yanhong, schemed to marry her off to the village chief's lazy and irresponsible son, Fu Gui, in exchange for a traditional payment made by the groom's family to the bride's family, which is often a significant financial burden. Refusing to accept her fate, Cuilan devised a plan to frighten Fu Gui away, but her efforts were repeatedly thwarted by Wang Yanhong's relentless manipulations.

In a moment of desperation, Cuilan was saved by Li Jianjun, an honorable ex-soldier, whose intervention sparked mutual feelings between them. Despite facing numerous obstacles from Wang Yanhong, Cuilan and Jianjun outwitted her and successfully tied the knot. After their marriage, the couple unexpectedly discovered that the wild "Heavenly Fragrance Herb" growing on the barren land behind the mountain was highly valuable. Partnering with a celebrated chef specializing in medicinal herbal dishes, they turned their discovery into a lucrative business and quickly achieved financial success. When a destitute and remorseful Wang Yanhong came seeking forgiveness, Cuilan and Jianjun chose to forgive her and responded with compassion. Their generosity not only brought reconciliation but also strengthened familial bonds. Together, they wrote a heartwarming story of justice, resilience, and rural success.
